Compatible Magnetics

When a transformer or an inductor goes obsolete, jumps to a fifty week lead time, or turns out to be single sourced, the design around it does not have to be reopened. ConverNova measures the original, works back to what the design was doing, and builds a form, fit and function replacement. Based in Madrid, Spain, and we aim to answer within 24 hours. No minimum order quantity. Send the legacy part number, and if you can, send the part.

How it works

From a part in your hand to a part on your line.

01

Send what you have

The legacy part number, a datasheet if one exists, the schematic around it, and ideally a physical sample. Any one of those is a start. All four is a fast answer.

02

We measure the original

Inductance, leakage, turns ratio, DC resistance, interwinding capacitance, saturation, and the mechanical envelope with its terminations and keepout.

03

We work out what it was for

The measurements plus your schematic tell us which parameters are load bearing and which are incidental. That is the difference between a copy and a replacement that works.

04

We build the equivalent

Same footprint, same terminations, same behaviour on your board, with a report comparing every measured parameter of the original against the replacement.

Why it comes up

Four reasons people call us about a part they already have.

None of them is a design problem. All of them are supply problems that become design problems if nobody acts.

Send us your spec
Obsolete
The original manufacturer has discontinued it, and the last time buy is not enough to carry the product
Lead time
The part is still made, but the quoted lead time no longer fits your build plan
Single source
Your customer or your own quality system wants a second source approved, and there is not one
Cost
The part was designed into a low volume product that is now high volume, and nobody has revisited whether it is still the right part

Straight answers

Replacements, the usual questions.

I have no drawing and no datasheet. Just the part.
That is enough. Inductance, leakage, DC resistance, turns ratio, interwinding capacitance and the mechanical envelope can all be measured, and your schematic tells us what the part has to do in circuit.
Will it be identical?
Equivalent where it matters and better where it can be. Materials move on. A part designed fifteen years ago often has a modern core available that cuts the loss at the same size. We report every measured parameter of both, so the difference is visible rather than assumed.
Will I have to requalify?
That depends on your standard and your customer, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can do is keep the form, fit and function the same and give you the measured evidence that the electrical behaviour matches, which is what a requalification argument is built on.
Can you reverse engineer a competitor's part?
We build replacements for parts our customers already use in their own products. We do not copy a design in order to sell it to someone else, and we do not work from anything covered by an agreement you are bound by. If in doubt, ask us and we will say no clearly rather than quietly.

Plus the schematic around it if you can. There is a field for the legacy part number on the specification form.
